Affinity Mapping
Empathy Maps
These insights highlighted user pain points, such as a lack of transparency in donations and difficulty finding reliable volunteering opportunities, forming the foundation for user-centered solutions.
Personas
Three personas were created, representing key user groups: animal lovers seeking to donate, active volunteers, and community organizers. Each persona outlined specific goals, frustrations, and behaviors, such as the need for accountability in donations or ease of accessing volunteering opportunities.
User Journey Maps
User journey maps detailed the steps users take to donate, volunteer, or report an animal in distress. These maps identified critical friction points, such as unclear processes for donations and lack of follow-up, guiding the design of streamlined and intuitive user flows.
Service Blueprint
A service blueprint was developed to map out the front-end user interactions and back-end processes, ensuring seamless coordination between the platform’s features, such as donation tracking, the distress alarm system, and volunteering sign-ups.
Point Of View Statements
Point of View statements were crafted to define user needs clearly. For example, “An animal lover needs a transparent donation process because they want to feel confident their contributions make an impact.” These POVs guided the ideation phase by focusing on solving the most pressing user problems.
How Might We's
Key “How Might We” (HMW) questions were formulated to address core user challenges, such as:
-
"How might we make the donation process more transparent for users?"
-
"How might we simplify access to volunteering opportunities?"
Crazy Eights's
The Crazy Eights technique was used to sketch eight ideas in eight minutes for each problem area. This rapid ideation exercise produced creative solutions, such as a "Donor Impact Dashboard," a streamlined volunteer matching system, and a distress alarm feature with real-time tracking.
NUF Test
Each idea was evaluated using the NUF (New, Useful, Feasible) test. Solutions like the transparent donation tracker and volunteer ranking system scored highest for innovation, practicality, and user value, guiding the selection of the most impactful features.
Branding and Design
The branding was centered around trust, empathy, and action. A clean and approachable design aesthetic was chosen, with user-friendly layouts and a warm color palette to inspire engagement. Design principles focused on clarity, accessibility, and building trust, ensuring the platform resonates with a wide audience.
Competitors Analysis
A thorough analysis of competitors revealed gaps in transparency and user engagement in existing animal welfare platforms. By addressing these shortcomings, Konejo positioned itself as a unique solution with features like transparent tracking and gamified rewards.
Rapid Idea Generation
Brainstorming sessions generated multiple concepts for each HMW question. Ideas ranged from gamified user engagement to automated donation tracking systems, ensuring diverse approaches to tackle user pain points effectively.
-
Style guide
A comprehensive style guide was developed, defining typography, color palettes, button styles, and spacing to maintain consistency. The warm color scheme and approachable fonts reinforced the platform's empathetic and trustworthy brand identity.
Paper and Mid-fi Prototypes
Early paper prototypes tested user flows and basic layouts, allowing quick iterations based on feedback. Mid-fidelity prototypes refined these layouts, focusing on usability and interaction design, ensuring each feature was accessible and functional.
Information Architecture
The results from card sorting informed the creation of a clear information architecture. The navigation was streamlined to guide users seamlessly through donation tracking, volunteer sign-ups, and reporting tools, minimizing friction.
Card Sorting
o organize the platform's features intuitively, card sorting sessions were conducted with users. Participants grouped related features like donations, volunteering, and distress alarms, helping define a logical and user-friendly structure.
Hi-fi Prototype
The high-fidelity prototype incorporated polished UI designs and interactive elements. Features like the Donor Impact Dashboard and Volunteer Ranking System were fully functional, allowing users to experience the platform’s intended flow. Usability testing on this prototype validated the design and highlighted minor areas for refinement.
Component library
Reusable components such as buttons, forms, and navigation elements were built to ensure consistency and scalability. These components adhered to accessibility standards, ensuring inclusivity for a diverse user base.
Usability testing
Usability tests were conducted with a diverse group of participants to evaluate the platform’s functionality and user experience. Participants were tasked with completing key actions, such as making a donation, signing up for a volunteer opportunity, and using the distress alarm feature. Feedback revealed areas of improvement, such as simplifying navigation and enhancing task clarity.
Animal in Distress Alarm (ADA)
